Dan Kipp

Founder & Managing Partner

Dan is a seasoned, Chicago-based investment professional with three decades of investing and financial advisory experience.  He has extensive experience across venture capital, growth equity and buyout investments, as well as in financial advisory and corporate finance disciplines and has boardroom experience ranging from startup to multinational companies.  Prior to City Capital, Dan co-founded Winona Capital Management and served on its Board and Investment Committee since its inception in 2006. He previously enjoyed a 17-year investment banking career with Salomon Brothers and Bank of America, at the latter serving as Managing Director and Global Co-Head of the Consumer Markets investment banking unit.  Dan lives in Winnetka with his three great children, two playful dogs, and one fantastic wife, Suzanne.  He is an avid sports fan, long suffering Cleveland Browns and Cubs fan,  vintage jazz & R&B enthusiast, and bass player.

Allen Tibshrany

Managing Director

Allen has more than 17 years of investment, strategy and operations experience working with both privately held and publicly traded companies. He has worked across multiple industries including food, consumer products, retail, transportation and energy.  Prior to joining City Capital, Allen was with Sterling Partners – a Chicago-based growth private equity firm – where he focused on investing in growth consumer/retail businesses. Before Sterling, Allen was with A.T. Kearney, a leading global management consultancy.   Allen lives in Chicago with his amazing wife, Amy, and two wonderful daughters.  He is an optimistic golfer, passionate college sports fan, avid outdoorsman, and foodie.

Michael Humenansky

Vice President

Michael combines four years of founding and growing a successful business with more than 10+ years of strategy, operations, and management consulting experience for public, private and growth-stage companies. He has worked across multiple industries including health and wellness, food and beverage, apparel, consumer products, manufacturing, and hospitality.  Prior to City Capital, Michael was founder of XMT Solutions LLC, where he led the business from ideation to a globally-distributed fitness equipment company. Before XMT Solutions, Michael was a consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, a leading global management consultancy.  Michael lives in Chicago (Old Town). He is an avid traveler (been to all 7 continents!), die-hard Washington DC sports fan, and enjoys spending his free time outdoors either playing sports or exploring Chicago’s neighborhoods.

Brad Blinn

Vice President

Brad is responsible for tactical direction and support in the life cycle of an investment. Previously, Brad spent 9 years at Goldman Sachs in the Investment Banking Division. His primary focus was executing mergers and acquisitions (including leveraged buyouts), in addition to debt and equity issuances, shareholder activism defense and broader corporate advisory. Brad lives in Lincoln Park with his wonderful wife, Gabby. He is an optimistic Cincinnati sports fan, inconsistent golfer, music enthusiast and avid reader.

Steve Scherer


Over the course of the last 30+ years, Steve has held a wide variety of senior executive positions in both start-up and established company environments requiring the application of his business, financial and legal acumen.  Steve’s responsibilities on the business side have run the gamut from strategic planning to tactical/operational execution. Additionally, he has significant deal experience in the venture capital and merchant banking arenas.  Prior to joining CCV, Steve spent several years in the health care industry with Mazza Healthcare and Mabis/DMI.  He owned and operated OPG, Inc. which distributed paints and specialty coatings, and spent 10 years with the SENCORP family of companies including their venture capital subsidiary Sentron Medical.  Steve and his wife Pamela live in Evanston, having returned to the Chicago area after raising their four spirited children in Cincinnati. They are enjoying the benefits and misgivings as empty nesters on the North Shore.  He enjoys collegiate and professional sports of all sorts, multiple genres of recorded and live music, and hitting the gym (somewhat) regularly.

Taggart Denton

A Chicago area native, Taggart joins CCV as a part of our Catalyst Team. Taggart provides consulting support to portfolio companies to create value through revenue growth and process improvements. He studied American History at Brown where he was also Captain of the Men’s Crew, culminating in a runner up national championship finish. Following graduation, he pursued the USMC Officer Candidate Program. Taggart enjoys Chicago sports and spends his weekends outside, either on Lake Michigan, or camping with his retriever, Murphy in-tow.
